Note to Self
By Joe Thorn

What is it?
This book does nothing by way of instruction and everything by way of modeling. Each chapter is a brief letter from the author to himself, reminding himself of one aspect of the Gospel and how that should affect his life. The reader gets to be a fly on the wall of these conversations and learn firsthand what it looks like to apply theology to everyday life.

Who’s it for?
The terms “Gospel” or “Gospel-centered” get used a lot in the church. But it’s not always clear what that means. This book is for anyone age 12 and up who wants to better understand how the Gospel affects more than just our salvation. It’s an incredibly easy read and would be especially beneficial to teens, though I doubt anyone would find it to be a waste of time. Since it’s made up of several very short chapters (50 chapters but only 144 pages total) it could be used for devotions or just read all at once.

How’d it go?
“This is near the top of my list of favorite books, right alongside “Experiencing the Trinity” (also by Joe Thorn). Thorn has a unique ability to take huge concepts and articulate them in an incredibly simple and down-to-earth way. This book isn’t just informative, it’s refreshing and motivating. I think every Christian should read this book!”  – Carter Brown
