Review: Why Bother with Church?

Why bother with church?
By Sam Allberry

What is it?
This short book quickly walks through all of the major reasons why it’s so crucial to be involved with a local church. Being careful to stay out of the weeds, Sam Allberry gives a clear and concise explanation of what the local church is and why it’s so important for believers.

Who’s it for?
This book is part of the “Questions Christians Ask” series from The Good Book Company. Each book in the series tackles a huge topic with brevity and clarity. The books are accessible and quick to read. They are more of a quick reference guide than an in-depth study resource. These books would be helpful for anyone who’s a teen or older. They could be used to help the reader better understand a topic or to prepare the reader to better explain the topic to someone else. Parents may find these books helpful in explaining big topics to their kids.

How’d it go?
“I am obviously a big fan of the local church, and I’ve read a lot of books about the local church. But this may be the most clear and concise defense I’ve ever read. I especially loved that whenever the author came to a divisive topic (i.e. baptism, Lord’s Supper, etc.) he briefly presented a couple different views and then directed the reader to talk to their own pastor about it in more depth. The whole book was refreshing, clear, and an easy read. I’ll be recommending this book to anyone who asks about the local church!” – Carter Brown
