How Jesus Makes Christianity Different

How Jesus Makes Christianity Different

by Carter Brown

As Christian parents, we know that Jesus is God. If we’ve believed the Gospel and put our faith in Jesus for our salvation, we know that Jesus is the only way for sinful humans to get back to God – because he is God. No other religion offers the answers that we find in Jesus. But how do we communicate this important piece of the Gospel message to our children?

I’d like to share a few brief resources that simply explain this truth in a way that may be helpful to your children and teens.

One Minute Apologetics Series from The Gospel Coalition

The Gospel Coalition has put together a series of videos entitled “One Minute Apologetics” in which Christian scholars provide a brief and accessible answer to a pressing question about Christianity. I recommend the entire series, but there are a couple that stand out as helpful in understanding the deity of Jesus.

The first one is Rebecca McLaughlin’s answer to the question “Why Should Someone Believe Jesus Is God?”

From there, I’d go to David Platt’s answer to the question “How Is Christianity Categorically Different from Every Other Religion?”

The two videos together explain that Jesus is God and therefore God came to save us rather than waiting for us to save ourselves. Many people and many religions believe Jesus was a real historical person. But only Christians believe that he was God who came to save us. This truth is essential to Christianity.

The Storm That Stopped by Alison Mitchell

We’ve already reviewed this book as well as the series it is a part of. But it’s worth mentioning again. This specific aim of this book is to illustrate and prove the deity of Christ to a child.

The deity of Christ is not a “secondary” doctrine relegated to seminary discussions. It is an essential part of the faith of any Christian. Let’s not rob our children of this beautiful truth! I hope these accessible resources encourage and excite you to share the beauty of Jesus – and who he really is – with them today.
