Review: The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross

The Garden, The Curtain, and the Cross
Carl Laferton
(Illustrated by Catalina Echeverri)

What is it?

“This beautifully illustrated hardback book takes children on a journey from the garden of Eden to God’s prefect new creation. A retelling of the Easter story through a Bible overview, The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross will help children discover that ‘because of our sin, we can’t go in’ but because of Jesus’ victory on the cross, an even better garden awaits us.” – Lifeway

Who’s it for?

This book is part of the “Tales That Tell The Truth” book series from Lifeway Publishers (check out a review of the entire series here). Like all the other books in the series, this book is designed to engage little children (3-6 years old) with a biblical truth or story as their parents read to them. The great storytelling combined with incredible illustrations is wonderful for helping kids understand and remember what the book is about.

How’d it go?

“This book was great! A babysitter read it to the kids one evening and said even she enjoyed it. The kids liked it a lot, stayed attentive, and even asked questions.” – Nicole Bolthouse

“I liked this very much. I think the topic and understanding of what the curtain tearing signifies is so important. Such a beautiful picture of God being real to us and accessible! I read it to my Sunday school class. The kids liked it and seemed pretty interested. For pre-school, the curtain is a new topic that they hadn’t heard before, and most of the class was attentive.” – Erin Dalziel
