Jax’s Tail Twitches
David Powlison

What is it?

This is a fun story about Jax the squirrel and his family. This story addresses how every member of the squirrel family deals with their anger in a sinful way, and talks about how they could have responded in a godly way.

Who’s it for?

This book is part of the “Good News for Little Hearts” series. Each book in the series is written for children who are 3 through 8 years old and seeks to address difficult emotions that kids face and how to deal with those feelings God’s way. They are great books to read with your child because it helps open up a dialogue about tough emotions and gives parents tips to talk about them.

How’d it go?

“I read this book with my 9-year-old son. He liked the story, and it gave us a chance to talk about how we both can deal with our anger in a way that glorifies God.” – Darcy VanNyhuis

“I liked that the kids weren’t the only ones in the story who had to work on something. It was nice to see the parents have to admit to having done something wrong, just like the child. My girls liked that the family all got along at the end. My 8-year-old thought it was a bit too ‘young’ for her, but my 5-year-old liked it a lot! I also thought the section for parents about ‘helping your child with anger’ had a lot of good food for thought.” – Erin Dalziel

“Good lesson on our tendencies in life to be annoyed and unkind to others. It was a good example of how everyone gets in the wrong mindset and gets into wrong treatment of others. It brought up an opportunity for us to have a discussion about how we all act in these unkind, unforgiving ways and how we can remember God’s kindness toward us.” – Peg Watson
